Quick answer
When Cursor's included usage runs out, check which pool emptied and when it refills. New plans refill a weekly pool. Legacy plans refill monthly pools. Past that, on-demand usage or prepaid credit covers the rest at API rates, up to the spending limit you set.
Find the pool that ran out
- On a new plan, one weekly pool covers the editor, CLI, Cloud Agents, and Grok apps.
- On a legacy plan, Cursor's own models and other providers' models have separate monthly pools. One can run out while the other has room.
Your options
- Wait. The pool refills at the next weekly or monthly reset.
- Pay as you go. Legacy plans call it on-demand usage, and it is off by default for individuals. New plans bill other providers' models from prepaid credit.
- Cap it. Set a spending limit so extra usage cannot run away.
- Switch models. On a legacy plan, a model from the other pool may still work.
