An F5Bot API alternative that does not need the $214.99 plan

F5Bot only opens its API and webhooks on Platinum. AyeWatch includes a REST API, signed webhooks and an MCP server from $9 a month.

If you are looking for an F5Bot API alternative, the reason is usually the price of getting data out. F5Bot's API and webhooks only appear on its Platinum plan at $214.99 a month. Below that, you get email, and on Gold, RSS and JSON feeds plus one Slack or Discord hook. AyeWatch puts a REST API, signed webhooks and an MCP server on every paid plan from $9 a month. This page compares the programmatic options across four tools.

Where F5Bot draws the line

F5Bot's tiers page separates feeds from the API:

F5Bot plan Price RSS / JSON Slack / Discord AI filtering API and webhooks
Free $0 No No No No
Silver $12.99/mo No No No No
Gold $49.99/mo Yes 1 2 alerts No
Platinum $214.99/mo Yes 3 5 alerts Yes
Diamond From $500/mo Yes Custom Custom Yes

The Gold feeds are read-only. You can poll them for new matches, but you cannot create, change or delete alerts from code, and there is no push callback. If you want a pipeline that reacts to a mention, or an internal tool that provisions keywords per customer, F5Bot asks for Platinum.

What AyeWatch gives a developer

AyeWatch's developer features are the same on every paid plan:

  • REST API. Create, list, update and delete topics.
  • Webhooks. Signed topic.update events, HMAC-SHA256, each carrying an AI-written summary of what matched. You verify the signature and act on the summary without fetching anything else.
  • MCP server at https://ayewatch.ai/api/mcp. Connect an AI agent with an API key and it can create a monitor, change what it tracks or pause it.
  • Slack and Discord, plus email and a daily digest email, routed per topic.

The difference in the payload matters as much as the price. An F5Bot feed gives you a match on a string. An AyeWatch webhook gives you a match that a model already judged against your plain-English rule, with a summary attached. For a developer piping alerts into a bot or a ticket queue, that removes a filtering step you would otherwise write yourself.

A worked example

Say you maintain an open-source library and want new Reddit questions about it to open an issue in your tracker.

With AyeWatch you create one Reddit monitor: "Posts asking how to use [library], reporting a bug in it, or comparing it with alternatives. Skip posts where the name means something else." You attach a webhook to that monitor. Each event arrives signed, with a summary you can drop straight into the issue body. Cost: from $9 a month.

With F5Bot you would need Platinum for a webhook, or Gold plus a poller on the JSON feed and your own relevance filter. Cost: $49.99 or $214.99 a month.

Costs to watch beyond the sticker price

Two details change the real bill. F5Bot's AI filtering on Gold and Platinum includes the first $10 a month of token usage; anything beyond that is billed on top of the plan, so a busy AI-filtered alert can cost more than the listed price. Syften's add-ons work the same way in a different place: X monitoring is $40 a month extra and YouTube $20.

AyeWatch's API, signed webhooks and MCP server come with every paid plan, from $9 a month, with no contract. There is no separate API fee, and every monitor is judged by meaning, not only the first few.

Where the others win

F5Bot covers Hacker News and Lobsters, which AyeWatch does not list. Syften covers more developer communities, including GitHub and Stack Exchange, and its entry plan includes API access. Octolens adds review sites and app stores. If your users mostly talk on Hacker News, one of those may fit better.

Speed is the other trade-off. F5Bot Gold and Platinum send instant alerts, so if being first into a thread matters most, F5Bot is quicker.

Bottom line

For an F5Bot API alternative, AyeWatch is the cheapest way to get a real API, signed webhooks and MCP, and each match arrives already judged against your plain-English rule, with a summary. The full feature comparison is on the AyeWatch vs F5Bot page.
