Free Rewatch alternative: how to replace Rewatch without paying first

Rewatch is now part of Loom. Every option here has a free way in, so you can learn what you miss before you buy.

The best free Rewatch alternative is AyeWatch's Free Preview if you want to follow changes on the web without another meeting, and Loom's free Starter plan or Otter.ai's free Basic plan if you need calls recorded. Rewatch itself is gone as a standalone product: Atlassian bought it in 2024 and moved it into Loom, so a free replacement is the sensible first step before anyone signs a contract.

Why start free

When a tool disappears, the temptation is to buy the closest paid match straight away. A better approach is to run a free plan for two or three weeks and see which parts of the old workflow you actually miss. Every option below has a no-cost way in, confirmed on the vendor's own pricing page in October 2026. Free plans come with limits that vendors change often, so check each page before you rely on one.

Free options compared

Tool Free option What it covers
AyeWatch Free Preview Alerts on web pages, topics and social media
Loom Starter plan Meeting Recording for Zoom, Google Meet and Teams
Otter.ai Basic plan Live transcription
Fireflies.ai Free tier Records Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls
Grain Free for individuals Viewer seats read shared notes; recording needs a paid seat
tl;dv Free plan Recording and AI notes

Step 1: separate recording from staying informed

Write down the last five times you opened Rewatch. For each one, note whether you needed the recording itself or just the update someone shared in the call. Developers often find that half their recorded meetings were someone summarizing release notes, a provider's status page or a competitor launch.

Step 2: try AyeWatch for the updates

AyeWatch is an AI monitor. Instead of waiting for someone to mention a change in a meeting, you point it at the source. Describe a topic in plain English, paste the URL of a changelog or pricing page, or follow X, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram or TikTok. Each alert explains what changed in a sentence or two and links the sources.

The Free Preview includes push and in-app alerts on the web, iOS and Android. If you later want alerts in Slack, Discord, email or a webhook, or want the REST API, those come with paid plans, which start at $9 a month. AyeWatch does not record or transcribe calls.

Step 3: pick a free recorder for the calls you must keep

  • Loom is the default if you used Rewatch, since Atlassian migrated Rewatch videos into Loom. Its Meeting Recording is on every plan, including Starter; AI recaps need Business + AI or Enterprise.
  • Otter.ai suits people who want a live transcript during the call. Its Basic plan is free.
  • Fireflies.ai records Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls and has a free tier, with CRM links reserved for premium tiers.
  • tl;dv has a free plan for recording and AI notes.
  • Grain works for teams where many people read notes and few record, since viewer seats are free and recording seats are paid.

Step 4: review after a few weeks

Look at which alerts you acted on and which recordings you went back to. If you rarely reopened a recording, you may not need a paid recorder at all. If the AyeWatch alerts replaced a standing meeting, that is time back every week.

When a paid plan makes sense

Upgrade a recorder when your team needs AI recaps, CRM sync or shared libraries the free plan does not include. Upgrade AyeWatch when alerts need to reach a team channel rather than one phone. Until then, the free tiers cover what most Rewatch users relied on.
