Here is how to check AI visibility in short: write down the questions your buyers ask an assistant, put each one to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini with web search on, and record whether your brand is named, whether your site is cited, and who is named instead. You can do that by hand, but seogeoaeo.ai's AI Answer Visibility tool does the asking and the recording in one run per question, which is the approach this guide uses.
The steps below work for a SaaS product, a developer tool or a local service. They take an afternoon the first time.
Step 1: collect three to five real questions
Start from what people actually ask, not from your own keywords. Good places to look are support tickets, sales call notes, the "how did you hear about us" field and community threads where people ask for recommendations. Write each question the way a buyer would say it, for example "What is the best error tracking tool for a small Python team?"
Aim for a mix:
- one broad "best tool for X" question;
- one narrow use-case question where you think you should win;
- one that names a rival, such as "alternatives to [competitor]".
Step 2: run each question through a checker
On seogeoaeo.ai, open the AI visibility check and enter your site, one question (300 characters at most) and your brand name. If you skip the brand name, the tool takes it from your home page. The run asks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini with web search turned on. Each run is 120 credits, and the price shows before you confirm.
If you would rather script it, the same tool is available over the REST API and as an MCP tool, so an agent in Claude Code, Cursor or Codex can run your question list with a workspace API key.
Step 3: record four things per answer
For each assistant and each question, note:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Named | Yes |
| Position among brands | 3rd of 5 |
| Your site cited | No |
| Named instead | Two rivals and a review site |
seogeoaeo.ai's report gives you these per answer, so this step is mostly copying the result into the sheet you will compare against later.
Step 4: read the gaps
Patterns matter more than any single cell.
- Named nowhere, rivals everywhere: the assistants do not yet connect your brand to this question. Look at the pages cited for the rivals; those are the sources to appear on or to answer better.
- Named but not cited: your name is known but your pages are not used as sources. A page that answers the question in its first lines gives the assistant something to quote.
- Cited but ranked low: your content is useful as a reference, but other brands are framed as the stronger choice. A clear comparison or use-case page helps here.
Step 5: change one thing, then check again
AI answers vary between requests, so any single run is a sample. Make one change, wait until it is live and indexed, then rerun the same question with the same wording. Compare against your sheet. The seogeoaeo.ai tool does not track questions over time on its own, which keeps each check a deliberate before-and-after test.
Where this method falls short
This approach covers ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. It does not include Google AI Overviews or AI Mode, and it does not tell you what the answers say about your brand; seogeoaeo.ai's Brand Narrative Check covers that second part. If you need trends over time across a large prompt set, a monitoring product such as Ahrefs Brand Radar or the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is the better tool for that job.
For most teams, though, five well-chosen questions checked before and after a content change say more than a broad score.
