If you need a Mention.com API alternative, the first thing to know is that Mention's API is no longer part of the base deal. On the current Mention pricing page, the only plan is Company, its price is not published, and "API access for custom integrations" is marked as not included and sold as a paid add-on. The same goes for historical data. For a developer who wants to pipe brand and topic alerts into their own stack, that means a sales call before the first request.
This comparison looks at three ways to get monitoring data into your code: Mention's add-on, Brand24's add-on, and AyeWatch, where the API comes with every paid plan.
The short version
| AyeWatch | Mention | Brand24 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| API on base plan | Yes, every paid plan | No, paid add-on | No, $149 extra |
| Outbound webhooks | Yes, HMAC-SHA256 signed | Not listed | Not listed |
| MCP server | Yes, documented | Not listed | Listed |
| Lowest paid price | $9/mo (Pro) | Not published, demo | $199/mo billed yearly |
| How you buy | On the website | Demo first | On the website |
| What a result is | A summarized update with sources | A raw mention | A raw mention |
What the AyeWatch API does
AyeWatch's REST API covers the topic lifecycle: create, list, update and delete monitors from code. When a monitor finds something, AyeWatch can send a topic.update webhook event that carries an AI-written summary of what changed. Webhooks are signed with HMAC-SHA256, so your receiver can check that a payload really came from AyeWatch before acting on it.
That event shape is the main difference for developers. A listening API usually hands you a stream of mentions and leaves the filtering to you. You end up writing your own relevance rules, dedupe logic and maybe an LLM pass to decide which mentions matter. AyeWatch does that judgment before the event fires: each monitor is a plain-English description, AI matches new items by meaning, and only matches produce an event.
The site also lists an MCP server for paid plans, so an assistant that speaks MCP can create and read monitors with an API key.
What you can monitor through it
- Topics across more than a billion sources: news, blogs, forums, government pages and academic publications.
- Webpages, such as a vendor's status page, a pricing page or a changelog, with an alert when a meaningful detail changes.
- Social sources: an X profile, a subreddit, a YouTube channel, LinkedIn, Instagram or TikTok, filtered by a plain-English rule.
A typical developer setup: one monitor for your product name across Reddit and X, one for a dependency's release notes page, and one for a competitor's pricing page, all posting to a webhook that writes into your own database or ticket queue.
Cost model
AyeWatch's paid plans start at $9 a month. On paid plans, Auto mode raises the check rate while a topic is busy and lowers it when things go quiet, so you do not have to tune each schedule by hand.
Delivery channels beyond the API are set per topic. Push and the in-app feed are on every plan; email, the daily digest, Slack, Discord, webhooks and the API come with paid plans.
Mention's add-on API
Mention has a developer API with documentation at dev.mention.com, and its pricing FAQ points to it for using Mention data on your own site. On the Company plan, though, it is an extra purchase, and the plan itself is priced through a demo. If your company already has a Mention contract and needs historical mention data with sentiment and influence scores, adding the API to that contract can still make sense.
Brand24's add-on API
Brand24 publishes its prices: the Individual plan is $199 a month billed yearly for three keywords, and API access is a separate $149 fee. Brand24 also lists MCP access. If you want sentiment-scored mention data with known pricing, it is the like-for-like choice.
Which one to build on
Build on AyeWatch if your code needs to react to events: a complaint thread, a changed pricing page, a regulation update. You get signed webhooks with summaries on the cheapest paid plan, and no add-on to negotiate.
Stay with Mention's or Brand24's API if your product needs bulk mention records for analytics, sentiment fields or long history. AyeWatch is alert-first and does not return sentiment scores. The AyeWatch vs Mention page lists the remaining differences.
