Quick answer
Max 5x gives five times Pro's usage per session and Max 20x gives twenty times. Anthropic does not publish the weekly amounts. Pro costs $20 a month and Max starts at $100, so check how often Pro actually stops you before you upgrade.
Pro and Max side by side
| Plan | Price | Per session | Fable models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $20 a month | Baseline | Usage credits only |
| Max 5x | $100 a month | 5x Pro | Up to half of weekly limits |
| Max 20x | $200 a month | 20x Pro | Up to half of weekly limits |
How to decide
Count the weeks Pro's weekly limit stopped you, and how often the five-hour window did. If it happens a few times a month, stay on Pro and cover the spikes with usage credits. If it happens most weeks, try Max 5x before 20x.
Measure before you pay
UsageAtlas shows both windows live, and its alerts tell you how often you get close. History shows which weeks ran hot and which model did it. The Max worth it guide has a short checklist.
Questions, answered
Is Claude Max unlimited?
No. Max has the same kinds of limits as Pro, a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit. They are larger.
Does Max 20x give 20 times the weekly usage?
Anthropic states the multiplier per session. It does not publish weekly amounts for any plan.
Can I use Fable on Pro?
Only with usage credits. Pro's included Fable access ended on July 19, 2026.
