Quick answer
Type /usage in Claude Code to see the session's estimated cost, your plan's usage bars, and recent activity. On the web, Settings > Usage shows your limits and the next weekly reset. For history past 30 days or across tools, use a desktop tracker such as UsageAtlas.
Commands inside Claude Code
/usageshows session cost, plan usage limits, and activity stats./costand/statsopen the same screen./statusshows your version, model, account, and connection./contextshows what fills the context window./insightswrites an HTML report about your recent sessions.
In /usage, press d or wto switch between the last 24 hours and the last 7 days. Anthropic's command reference lists the rest.
What /usage leaves out
- The activity breakdown comes from this computer only. The plan bars include everything, but the breakdown does not show claude.ai or your other machines.
- The cost is a list-price estimate. On Pro or Max it is not your bill.
- Session totals reset when you run
/clear. - Claude Code deletes local files after 30 days by default, so older days are gone.
Settings > Usage on the web
On claude.ai or in Claude Desktop, Settings > Usage shows the same limits with the next weekly reset. It is also where you turn on usage credits and where a free reset appears when Anthropic offers one.
A tracker for the rest
UsageAtlas keeps both windows in view without opening a terminal. It stores 90 days of token history by project and model and shows Codex and Cursor beside Claude.
Questions, answered
What is the command to check usage in Claude Code?
/usage. In current versions, /cost and /stats open the same screen.
Why does /usage say "Showing last-known usage"?
The usage endpoint has its own rate limit, so Claude Code shows the last numbers it received. They refresh on the next successful check.
Can I see Claude Code usage from last month?
Not in /usage, and Claude Code deletes local files after 30 days by default. UsageAtlas keeps daily totals, so last month stays visible.
